Mariana stayed at my place for 5 days. When I got home I was surprised to find the lights on. She ate in the bedroom and left a bowl of cereal (full) there. She also left garbage in the bathroom. She didn't bother to wipe the kitchen table and spilled something unidentifiable in the refrigerator. I charge a cleaning fee but I expect my guest to throw away their garbage, not leave food around and clean up after themselves. If you are renting out your own place and these sorts of things bother you I would advise to make an agreement with her and be specific about what you expect from your guests. I have been doing airbnb for 2 years and rented out my apartment a dozen times but I never had to specify these things. I will make sure to edit my listing and have these rules explicit.
When I contacted Mariana privately via text to tell her that I expect my guest to clean up after themselves, she did not apologize and told me that she was disappointed with the apartment because it I did not have AC and because my neighborhood is dangerous. In my listing I clearly state that I do not have AC and the area where I live is not dangerous. I live in Prospect Lefferts Garden an upcoming section in Brooklyn. It is a very diverse neighborhood ( West Indians, African Americans, Latino, Asian, Middle Eastern, Orthodox Jewish and White). I felt this was not a really mature reaction....if you have a problem with diversity... if you do not feel safe in multicultural places Brooklyn is not a good place to stay!
On top of this she seems to have taken my hair drier and now I am trying to get airbnb involved to get the money to replace it.
