One of the landmarks of Backbay Boston and one of the most magnificent public libraries in the country.
Established in 1848, the PBL was the first large free municipal library in the United States, and the first public library to lend books. The architecture is historic, beautiful, and free to enter. Make sure you stop by the BPL Courtyard as well, it is particularly nice on a sunny day.
One of the most spectacular libraries in the country. Come be inspired and also check out the new wing and see tapings of NPR!
Classic architecture meets new age media center. The Boston Public Library system was established in 1852 and is the third-largest in the United States, behind only the Library of Congress and the New York Public Library. At nearly a million square feet, the Central Library is sure to offer something for everyone.
