Food Scene

Using the finest of ingredients, Chef Aris Tsanaklidis brings the most amazing combinations of flavors to the palette. Great view of the Acropolis, day or night. Book the roof terrace a week in advance. Pricey for Athens, but exquisite food. The menu changes all the time, but I was bowled over by the simplest of sautéed string beans in butter and mint.

Everything Else

Kokkari, on the island of Samos, is the most beautiful little seaside village imaginable. Beautiful waters surround Pythagoras' green island, which was also the vacation abode of Marc Antony and Cleopatra. Kokkari has a plethora of restaurants and accommodations for a few leisure days by the sea.

Drinks & Nightlife

Nauplion is a mainland Peloponnesian city with a bustling nightlife, marina and beaches, very close to Corinth and Epidaurus, where you can enjoy the history and archeological wonder of an ancient Greek theater still in use. Bring a pillow if you attend any show at Epidaurus, because those marble benches are hard!

In a region of almost inaccessible sandstone peaks, monks settled on these 'columns of the sky' from the 11th century onwards. Twenty-four of these monasteries were built, despite incredible difficulties, at the time of the great revival of the eremetic ideal in the 15th century. Their 16th-century frescoes mark a key stage in the development of post-Byzantine painting.

Delphi is famous as the ancient sanctuary that grew rich as the seat of the oracle that was consulted on important decisions throughout the ancient classical world. Moreover, it was considered as the navel (or center) of the world by the Greeks as represented by the Omphalos. It occupies an impressive site on the south-western slope of Mount Parnassus overlooking the coastal plain to the south and the valley of Phocis. It is now an extensive archaeological site and the modern town is nearby. It is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in having had a phenomenal influence in the Ancient world, as evidenced by the rich monuments built there by most of the important ancient Greek city-states, demonstrating their fundamental Hellenic unity.
