At the top of the West End is where you can find this lovely promenade boasting the historic mansions of the city. You can walk along the promenade while enjoying the view of the city and historic houses below. Don’t be afraid to walk down some of the side streets near the promenade, you can see some pretty amazing historic properties designed by the famous John Calvin Stevens around the area.

Our favorite beach in Maine. Be aware of the tide schedule because this is a hard spot to visit during high tide as the beach is completely underwater. However, this beach is absolutely stunning. Great surfing here as the waves get pretty big (for Maine!). With the tide schedule in mind, get there as early as possible so you can find a spot to park or take a taxi out there because the parking lot fills up fast and there is no street parking. Another idea is to get there right at 11am when the surfers are leaving and wait in the parking lot line to snag a spot in the lot.

Casco Bay Lines Maine island ferry with service throughout Casco Bay from Portland. A scenic 20-minute ferry ride to Peaks island is boat loads of fun, and after renting bicycles right when you get off ferry you can do the island loop and breathe in the beautiful views. A great way to have a true Maine experience is to absorb a little island life. Finish your day with a lobster roll at the Cockeyed Gull restaurant while watching the sunset with Portland's working harbor as a back drop. Fantastic.
