A FEW WORDS ABOUT YOUR HOST
"Slice of paradise at reasonable price. "
Born and raised in Mahibadhoo, Mazin is a veteran of the premium hospitality industry where he spent years working for one of the most luxurious resorts in the world, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island.
When the government allowed Maldivians to own and run guesthouses on local islands, it was a dream come true for Mazin and he became one of the first to do so with the opening of his first guesthouse, Amazing Noovilu, tapping on his extensive industry experience and deep understanding of guest experiences.
Today, he runs Noovilu Suites, a luxury boutique guest house in Mahibadhoo. Together with his team of family and crew, he offers visitors a chance to enjoy the beauty of the Maldives with the comfort of a hotel stay, all at an affordable price.
ABOUT THE ISLAND
A hidden gem in the Maldives blessed with crystal clear waters and picture perfect sunsets, Mahibadhoo is the capital island of the Alif Dhaal Atoll and located approximately 78 km (49 miles) south-west of Male, easily accessible by ferry or speedboat from Male city.
On the west of this charming local island lies a peaceful lagoon and two harbours where local fishermen are often seen. On the east, you will find a beautiful beach. And on the main street of the island, there are local shops, restaurants and cafes. If you’re lucky, you might even catch an exciting game in play at the football field, a sport the locals love!
GETTING AROUND ON THE ISLAND
Mahibadhoo measures just 2.4km (1.5 miles) long and 1.2km (0.75 miles) wide, which makes getting around extremely easy. An easy jog around the island takes 20 minutes and it takes only about 5 minutes on foot from Noovilu Suites to the main streets.
More importantly for visitors, Mahibadhoo is very well-provisioned with basic services within easy reach. These include ATMs, banks, telecommunications shops, convenience stores and even medical facilities including a hospital and three well-stocked medical pharmacies. (US dollars are generally accepted on the island.)
PEOPLE AND THE CULTURE
Approximately 2,000 people live on Mahibadhoo and their sources of livelihood include fishing, construction, boat building, carpentry, handicraft and tourism. A vast majority of the local young men work in nearby tourist resorts.
Maldivian people are generally very warm and friendly. On the island and at the guesthouse, it is a close-knit community where guests are made to feel welcomed and at home. There are, however, a few local customs and religious practices that non-locals are asked to respect.
