The name of the unit derives from the days when it was a shepherd’s house. In the evenings, the shepherd would bring the sheep to the kraal before returning to his dwelling nearby. We started to renovate the unit early in July 2017, with the aim of keeping its rustic look whilst still providing all the comforts needed for an exceptional stay on the farm. The front door of the unit overlooks the kraal where the sheep still sleep in the evening, providing unparalleled views of the starry skies.

Our cottage boasts a typical Karoo style open-plan kitchen, Dover stove, living room, en-suite bathroom with bath and shower, main bedroom with double bed, spare room with two single beds. Entertainment patio overlooking the courtyard and garden.

This charming Karoo cottage, offers two bedrooms (one with an extra length king-size double bed and one with two single beds, all four-posters), one bathroom (with shower and bath), a fully-equipped kitchen and a combined sitting room and dining room. There is a substantial paved garden area with an outside table and sitting arrangement. This cottage has some excellent classic antique features including some yellowwood floors, as well as beamed and planked ceilings.

Charming Heritage Cottage

This historic townhouse is within easy walking distance of shops and restaurants. The private courtyard is ideal for a braai (barbecue), or a quiet coffee. The house is child-friendly, and pets are welcome too. A gun-safe is provided, ideal for hunters. The stove is gas, so cooking during load-shedding is never a problem! As with many Graaff-Reinet houses, there is ONLY ON-STREET PARKING. There is also no TV.
