Ski runs slope down the mountains across the valley from this lodge-inspired Aspen residence. The villa’s vaulted ceilings echo the shape of the hills, peaking over an open-concept great room. Walk 15 minutes or drive to shops, restaurants, art exhibitions, and winter festivals in downtown Aspen.  Leaves flutter over the home’s furnished deck facing the mountains, and flower boxes sprout from the railings to sweeten the views. A piano and 2 fireplaces make for cozy evenings, and, in a thoughtful touch, the driveway is heated.  A stone chimney and exposed logs lend a little ski-lodge charm to the open-concept great room, where double-height windows bathe the living area, dining area, and a fully equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar in sunlight. Send kids to watch TV in the separate family room downstairs while the grown-ups prep dinner or catch up over a bottle of wine.  While it’s best known for its skiing, Aspen is a hub of year-round activity in the Colorado Rockies. Hike the trails that start just across from the villa, bike in the foothills, spend a day fishing or rafting in area rivers, and chase thrills while paragliding. As the sun rises over the mountains of Beaver Creek, sip espresso and enjoy the show before heading out for a day on the slopes of Vail.
