The Grade II listed Bakehouse, like its beautiful neighbouring holiday accommodation Cowbeach Cottage, has a wealth of character and has been lovingly restored to a high standard. The Bakehouse can be booked alone or with the Cottage for two couples who wish to holiday together, whilst enjoying their own space.
The charming, bright and tastefully decorated vaulted studio features a wealth of oak beams and benefits from its own south facing garden, patio and verandah with far reaching views.

An spás
The Bakehouse is a delightful and relaxing place to stay, whether you wish to explore the many tourist attractions that the area has to offer, take advantage of the local footpaths, one of which leads directly from our field, along the River Rother to Bodiam Castle, or simply wish to relax. The beautiful long sandy beaches at Camber Sands and the quaint Cinque Port town of Rye with its cobbled streets and many eateries are a short drive away. However you choose to spend your day, you can be sure of an enjoyable stay at the Bakehouse. Relax on the comfortable sofa whilst watching the smart TV, listen to music on the portable speaker or simply sit on the verandah and watch the world go by, whilst watching our pet sheep and listening to the bird song. The fully fitted modern kitchen including electric oven and hob has everything needed to prepare meals at home. There is a microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher, fridge with freezer compartment. If you prefer, you can simply retire to the king size bed with its crisp white cotton bed linen, and enjoy the view of the Bakehouse garden as well as the view of the beautiful countryside beyond. The Bakehouse benefits from underfloor heating throughout, making it warm and snug during the winter.
Enjoy a morning coffee or a glass of something in your own south facing garden, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Kent countryside from both the verandah and the patio. There is also a lockable gate that can be utilised to access the garden at Cowbeach Cottage, if both properties are rented together.
It is ideally situated to explore the many National Trust properties nearby.

The Bakehouse is not suitable for toddlers and children under 12.

The Bakehouse has been designed for two people and is not a party venue. It must only be occupied by those who have booked unless a prior agreement has been made with us.
We ask guests to please be respectful of our neighbours and guests using Cowbeach Cottage and to keep noise to a minimum after 10 pm.

Sandhurst, England, an Ríocht Aontaithe

The Bakehouse is situated in the small village of Sandhurst in the beautiful Kent countryside, we are a mile from the East Sussex border and the village of Bodiam which is home to the famous moated Bodiam Castle. We have a footpath at leads directly from our property, through the fields, along the river to the castle (approximately an hour for a leisurely walk).

Other National Trust properties to visit nearby are:

Sissinghurst Castle – 7.5 miles, Batemans - 11 miles, Smallhythe Place - 9.5 miles, Scotney Castle - 10 miles, Great Dixter House and Gardens is only 4.5 miles away in Northiam and the lovely town of Battle with its Abbey ruins is 10.5 miles away, these are both well worth a visit.

If you are feeling active and would like to kayak along the River Rother, visit Bodiam Boating and Lime Wharf Cafe to hire a kayak. You can also take the ferry from here if you prefer a more leisurely journey along the river to Bodiam Castle. The beautiful Bewl Water is 10 miles and very close to Scotney Castle.

The bustling towns of Tenterden and Cranbrook are only 8 miles and 6 miles respectively. We adore the cobbled streets of Rye (11 miles), which a lovely place to spend the morning browsing the boutique shops and perhaps staying for lunch or a cream tea. This can be combined with a visit to the beautiful long white sandy beaches at Camber Sands. Battle is also a lovely town just across the East Sussex border. Mark and I (with a lot of help from parents) have spent the last three years renovating the cottage. We are passionate about retaining the fabric of the building and using traditional restoration methods. Now we have finished the cottage, we can resume our interests of gardening, walking and enjoying the outdoors (not being stuck on a roof in a howling wind)! We love travelling, our favourite destinations include anywhere in France, Cape Town and Bermuda.
