The Magic House is in the heart of a peaceful, charming restaurant and boutique district, 3 blocks to SE Hawthorne and Division. 15 minutes to the Airport, Convention Center and Downtown.

You have the entire Magic Second Floor with a private bathroom. Guests staying in the Magic Attic above will share the front door, stairway, 2nd floor hallway and sculpture garden.

Good people of all colors and orientations are welcome. Love for all creation is practiced here.

The Magic House is located in the peaceful Richmond district of Southeast Portland. It is lovely to walk through the neighborhood to nearby SE Hawthorne or Division streets. It is fifteen minutes to the airport, the convention center and downtown, with rental bikes within 3 blocks , and lots of free street parking on our block.

Your room is the Magic Mustard Room. There is a very small kitchenette, and no TV. There is a hot water heater, coffee and tea to get you going in the morning. Coffee and breakfast are as close as one block away at Trinket Cafe (turn right out the driveway).

A second room is available for groups of more than two people for additional cost. Please request the extra room so we can know to prepare it.
Please enter the correct number of guests and Airbnb will add an extra guest fee after the first two guests.

Hobie is your onsite host and lives below. He is practicing social distancing with our guests, and is available to assist if you need anything during your stay.

When required, please wear a mask while entering and exiting because you may cross paths with guests from the Magic Attic or Hobie.

The colors are bright, the stairs are creaky, the floors are worn and full of 113 years of stories! Most of the sculptures were sculpted right here between 2000 and 2017.

The Magic House was Todji's sculpture studio for 17 years. We hope you enjoy it's unique character, up-cycled furnishings, and artistry! Enjoy!

Walking through the neighborhood is very charming and there is plenty of space for social distancing in the surrounding streets.

Hobie is a novelist and professional writer. We support the local art community by giving work at the Magic House to community artists.

We operate with a short term rental permitted issued by the city or Portland. The city has conducted a safety inspection of the entire premises.

We use natural cleaning products, some of them are scented.

You are welcome to responsibly smoke legal substances outside. Please keep smoking materials in sealed containers when inside. There are many dispensaries within walking distance.

Todji and Gisele did the restoration work on this vintage home themselves, painting the outside of The Magic House and Magic Barn with seven colors over three summers.

Todji produces public art bronze sculpture monuments for US cities. Hopefully you have seen some, or will see them one day!

Patronage from guests such as yourself is part of what helps Todji continue to work as an artist, and for this he is deeply grateful!

Extra Services:

We charge $30 per guest per night, after the first two guests. If you are a group of three or four and would like us to prepare a second room on the same floor please let us know. Please enter the correct guest count so we can provide the right amount of towels and bedding.

For $15 you can request early check-in at 2 PM, or late check out at 1 PM, or baggage storage until evening. Please send your request at least one day in advance so we can coordinate with the cleaning team. We charge $25 for same day requests if we are able to accommodate. The cleaning team will text you when your room is ready. If the cleaning team for any reason is not able to have your room ready by 2:30 PM then we will refund you the early check in fee.

Driveway parking is available on a first come first serve basis for $25. We may ask that you move your vehicle during the day if the driveway is needed for maintenance worker parking.

The Magic House is centrally located in one of the most beautiful and charming neighborhoods in Portland. There is an abundance of restaurants (that deliver), grocery stores, neighborhood strolling, boutique browsing and hiking options within walking distance.

See a movie, or just step in to witness the beautiful and iconic McMenamin's Bagdad theater, accompanied by an incredible restaurant/bar/pool hall in the back called the "Back Stage Bar", at SE 37th and Hawthorne. It will give you a feel for classic Portland!

We are minutes from Mt Tabor park which has a lovely forest with walking trails sitting upon a dormant volcano, and we are 45 minutes to the spectacular 600 foot tall Multnomah waterfall in the gorgeous Columbia River Gorge scenic area.

Division Street is the new up and coming Southeast neighborhood. With lots of modern architecture, new restaurants and shops you will get a feel for the freshest vibe Portland has to offer.

Serving Food Late - Sapphire Hotel at 50th and Hawthorne, Romantic and sexy atmosphere- great for late night drinks and gourmet bar food. Stumptown Coffee Roasters- 45th and Division, Classic Great Portland Coffee Trinket- One block away on Lincoln and 39th, great for Brunch with their locally sourced eggs!) Harlow- 36th and Hawthorne, Hip and Healthy, great for lunch, or fresh veggie juice. Por Que No- 46th and Hawthorne, Wildly popular Mexican with a great playful decor. (Don’t be intimidated by the line, you order at the counter, and then get a seat and your order will be out in no time) Pok Pok- 32nd and Division, There are literally 11 Thai restaurants in walking distance, but Pok Pok is the best. Began as a food cart, but grew into a Restaurant Empire. Worth the wait. Bollywood Theater- 30th and Division, Indian food small plates. Also along line but worth it! Salt and Straw- 33rd and Division, Food Networks top five ice creams! Super Popular! Lauretta Jeans- 34th and Division, Breathtaking Pies! Tidbit Food Cart Pod, 28th and Division, Fabulous food cart selection, lots of seating, including a beer garden and vintage clothing bus. A truly Portland experience.

Hiking: The website of "Friends of the Columbia Gorge" has detailed information about many hikes in the scenic and nearby Columbia River Gorge. It is a 45 minute drive from here to enter the gorge. Below are the names of hikes that we love and recommend. Check the website to find a hike with a distance and fitness level that suits you. For those who are visiting the gorge for the first time, I recommend visiting the most spectacular, and also the most touristicated, 600 foot Multnomah Falls. For those who want a challenging half day hike you can begin at Multnomah Falls and hike a loop called the Franklin Ridge Loop. Multnomah Falls /Franklin Ridge Loop Eagle Creek Angels Rest Bridal Veil Falls Triple Falls Wahkeena Falls.

Todji met Gisele on a trip to Rio De Janiero Brazil when the winds of destiny blew him to the front door of Gisele's little house in the forest.

They went on a first date in Peru, driving through the Andes Mountains and motor canoeing in the Amazon. They became engaged and Todji moved to Rio de Janeiro where they married in 2010.

They moved back to Portland in 2012 to work as a team producing bronze public sculpture monuments for US cities, and for Gisele to study and teach yoga. They continued to restore and transform Todji's old fixer upper into "The Magic House" until it was ready to receive diverse travelers such as yourself!

Todji, Gisele and Hobie lived together as housemates for two and a half years at the Magic House. Hobie is a writer, teacher, caretaker and yogi and currently lives at the Magic House as your onsite host. Todji and Gisele live nearby and are planning to start a family.
