Hope Cottage is cosy, quirky and full of character (lots of exposed stone walls and original beams, plus a woodburner) but with all mod cons. It sits in its own terrace/garden in this pretty South Cotswolds village. There are wonderful views, and it's the perfect place to relax and get away from it all. A true home from home, with privacy and seclusion (no owners on site), a great local pub and walks in all directions.

An spás
Hope Cottage is a detached property built in 1750s in the rural hillside village of France Lynch in the South Cotswolds. Recently refurbished, it boasts all mod cons with a new kitchen and bathroom, alongside character features like oak beams, exposed stone walls and mullion windows. There is an inglenook fireplace in the sitting room, with a woodburner and logs and kindling provided. It sits in its own private, south-facing garden with wonderful views across the valley, and there is parking for one car. The cottage has one double bedroom with additional accommodation (a single bed) in a mezzanine area, plus a sofa bed (small double) on the landing, which looks out through the most fantastic picture window. The beds are made up with beautiful white cotton bedlinen and towels are provided. There is gas central heating, with a woodburner in the sitting room to keep the place toasty on chilly evenings. France Lynch is a charming village with dry stone walls and narrow winding lanes, and a great pub, the Kings Head, just two minutes walk away at the end of the lane. There are some beautiful walks direct from the door (many ending at or passing by other local pubs in the area). Within a short drive are local attractions such as the Farmers Market at Stroud, the Rococo Gardens at Painswick, Prinknash Abbey, Westonbirt Arboretum, the antique shops of Tetbury and Laurie Lee's picturesque Slad Valley, the inspiration behind 'Cider with Rosie'. Within 45 minutes drive are the larger centres of Bristol, Bath and Cheltenham, and the cottage is also conveniently situated for events such as Gatcombe Horse Trials, Badminton, Kemble and Fairford Air Shows and Cheltenham's Races, Literary and Music Festivals.

Rochtain d'aíonna
The cottage is detached with its own private garden and guests have the sole use of this. Although the cottage is situated in a lane going through the village, it feels very secluded and tucked away, and isn't overlooked by any near neighbours. You will be able to relax in privacy and seclusion.

In line with Airbnb's enhanced cleaning protocol, I clean each room using extensive cleaning checklists and sanitise high-touch surfaces, from furniture to doorknobs and light switches. I also provide extra cleaning supplies, so you can clean as you stay.
We love our cottage! It's a really special place - cosy, quirky, peaceful... and we really enjoy having people from all over the world come and stay there.
One thing that is worth pointing out: this is an old country cottage so, although we've brought it bang up to date in every way and keep it meticulously clean, you're likely to come across the occasional spider and there are a few woodlice who find their way in. It's very normal around here - par for the course when you live in the country - but if this isn't something you're happy with, you'd probably be better off booking yourself into a modern hotel and doing a city-break!

Stroud, Gloucestershire, An Ríocht Aontaithe

France Lynch is a charming little village, full of stone cottages and winding lanes, and the pub at the end of the road is just two minutes walk away - in the summer there's a garden to sit out in, and during the winter there is usually a roaring log fire inside. There are some great walks in this area and we've left plenty of information in a booklet in the cottage - some maps of the immediate local area, plus smaller scale ones that include footpaths. We have also left some laminated sheets with specific walks that guests can follow. Stroud is a quirky, fun little town with a great Farmers Market on Saturdays and Cirencester is slightly larger with a bigger range of shops and some nice restaurants and bars. Both are within an easy drive.

I live in the beautiful South Cotswolds with my husband Mat, our three children Sam, Maddy and Jess and a small horde of animals including Rosie the dog. I spend a lot of my time ferrying the kids around and keeping everyone in clean socks and well fed, and in my spare time I work as a journalist. I love sport and exercise and have a tendency to get a little obsessive about everything I do, whether it's cycling, tennis or netball. Family holidays haven't been very adventurous in recent years, but in the past Mat and I have travelled to Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, the States, Africa and to many destinations in Europe, and we intend to do more travelling once the children are older and we don't have to spend quite so much of our disposable income on school trips and babysitters. I love music and always have a good book on the go (contemporary fiction preferably) and my favourite way to spend an evening is to share a bottle (or two) of wine with a bunch of wonderful female friends. We love our new cottage, which we have just spent four months renovating, and I'm very tempted to move in there myself - just me and the dog...

We live about five minutes away, and although I am always on hand if guests should need anything, I think that most people want to come away and enjoy a stay without feeling that an owner is breathing down their neck! So if guests need advice or help we are always on the end of the phone or happy to pop over for a chat, but if they'd rather just come and enjoy the cottage and there is nothing they need help with, then that's fine too!
