Parrots in Paradise Sanctuary
Every parrot has a story. You’ll learn all about our rainbow-colored rescues in Kona’s only parrot sanctuary. We’ll start with our mission: to give every displaced parrot a nutritious diet, large space to fly, and a safe place to interact with other parrots (and people). Next, we'll take a walk around the sanctuary, where you can get to know the range of personalities of cockatoos, lovebirds, macaws, and more species. Throughout the tour, you will have many photo opportunities, especially with our well-trained parrots. Other things to note: Wear casual clothes, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, and bring a camera. Parrots in Paradise Sanctuary is also home to two rescue dogs, two Holstein cows and two sulcata tortoise. While we like to keep our group sizes small to enhance a personal experience, we are open to hosting larger family/friend groups with more than six individuals.
CHOCOLATE, VANILLA & COFFEE FARM TOUR
Aloha and Welcome as we gather around the information table at Sharkey's 100-year old farmhouse in the historic plantation village of Papaikou. Sample our freshly brewed 100% Hawaiian coffee or cacao tea, grown right here on the farm. From there we begin an easy walk through our orchards where you'll learn about Hawaiian coffee growth and production. Interwoven the coffee are rows of cacao trees. Depending on the time of year, you can usually see tiny flowers and large, multi-colored pods hanging from trunks and branches. Long, heavy vanilla vines grow up the cacao trees, nature's perfect trellis! We'll show you how each vanilla orchid is delicately hand-pollinated to produce long "hands" of vanilla beans. We'll then proceed to the "Slab" where the pods are 'cracked' before the fermentation process. Next we move into the greenhouse where flats of newly planted seedlings just beginning their journey grow alongside large screens filled with coffee and cacao beans slowly drying to perfection. Finally we'll move into our certified Chocolate Kitchen where the Magic happens! Who wants a taste? Free samples! Other things to note Refreshments (coffee/tea/water/juice) Tastings & Snacks Included Parents, please supervise young children at all times There are no stairs to navigate and the restroom is equipped with handrails Adults $75 + $3.75 tax=$78.75 Children $35 + $1.75=36.75

Madam Pele's Late Night Hike
Please note: lava is currently flowing so this experience is being held as a late night lava viewing cultural hike to Kīlauea, THE most active volcano in the WORLD, with history of the flows/eruptions, the volcanoes that formed the island, Hawaiian deities and more! You will leave with a greater appreciation and understanding of Hawaii and the culture! In this tour we will hike to one of the best viewing locations for lava on the island (when active), a lookout to where Madam Pele resides! The hike is less than an hour roundtrip and mostly flat terrain. I will also share mo’olelo (stories), cultural information, and the history of the 2018 lava flow which drastically impacted many things on island including the area we will be walking on. I also host lava hikes that are a bit longer than this tour with a more adventurous hike to a location you would not find on your own. This shorter hike often has other people and tour companies but the longer one does not have other tour companies. If you are confused about the options, please message me for clarification and to make sure you book the experience you are looking for :) Each tour is different depending on the moon phases, cloud coverage and lava intensity. I can customize any tour and add dates that are not on the calendar if schedule permits.

Sunset Ho’o Ponopono Ceremony
You will participate in a Ho'oponopono Bowl of Light sunset ceremony. Ho'oponopono is an ancient Hawaiian practice of setting things right. Ho'o = to make. Pono = good/right. We will prepare for the ceremony with an opening chant to bless the land and deepen our connection to it. Then I will teach you how to make your own sacred ki leaf lei for your wrist or ankle. I will share cultural insights and practices as we prepare for the Bowl of Light Ceremony by learning the 4 powerful healing statements of Ho'oponopono. I will also teach you a sacred Aloha chant. At sunset, you will be ready for your personal Bowl of Light Ceremony! You can practice this any time or at any sunset for the rest of your life. Your bowl and lei will be your reminders to live in the peace of this practice. Your ki leaf lei will dry as a keepsake. You may also choose to make another lei to give as a sacred offering when you leave the island. I look forward to celebrating this special ceremony with you on your Hawaiian holiday. Other things to note We will be on grass and sand, and perhaps walk out to tide pools on rocky shore at sunset. You may also walk into water if you like. Vegan Hawaii Cooking Class/local produce
This is a hands-on experience that starts with an introduction about Hawaiian plants and fruit trees and a tour of the sanctuary grounds. Once everyone gets acquainted with one another, we will harvest from our garden and head to the pool-side, open air kitchen to prepare the food we've gathered. We have a 3 mile coastline view from the kitchen area, and you can cool off with your feet in the pool. Dinner classes include Kona's breathtaking sunsets at no extra cost! Each experience will focus on a different type of cuisine, (Italian, Thai, Indian, Mexican, etc.) but each will consist of a type of salad, a main course (usually involving a starch, i.e. grain, pasta, bread, etc.), and a light dessert. We will, of course, be using as many vegetables as possible, and plenty of fruit as well, with as much locally grown produce as we have at any given time of year. As we prepare the food, there will be instructions and lessons on knife handling, small appliance use, how best to cut ingredients, what parts of fruits and vegetables to use, and what to compost. For those interested, it is perfectly fine to bring your own bottle of wine/beer. You will leave with new cooking skills, a full belly, and likely a few new friends. Voila!! Other things to note Banyan Tree Sanctuary Guest House has six guest accommodations if you would like to stay with us, or you are welcome to come to the vegan cooking class independently. This is an open air kitchen so bring bug spray and wear long pants if you are susceptible to being bitten.
Create Lava Rock Sculptures in the Hawaiian Jungle
