As Nature lover and scientist I spent 7 years surveying the geohydrology of Tanamá cave system. I created a fun way to explore the river. Wearing life vest, knee pads and helmet, I floated downstream while enjoying the amazing view of the canyons. I named it Body Rafting. It’s safe; unique. I created a nature reserve and founded Puerto Rico Rescue & Outdoors School to educate Nature interpreters certified as first responders. We are proud of our unparalleled safety record: you are in best hands. If I'm unable to host you, Gaby, Kelly, Mayra, Carla or Juan will. They are the most amazing hosts.

You have to go bodyrafting!!!! I can not speak more highly of this experience. First, Mimi is excellent with communication and ensuring you are prepared for the expedition. Our guide Kelly was extremely knowledgeable and sociable. Everyone made us feel so welcome and very safe the entire journey. I was most impressed with the organization of the journey. The guides knew when to stop for breaks and where to warn us about rocks. They knew the path like the back of their hand, yet still pointed out details and recognized that this was our first time in this amazing terrain. The day started with the drive to the cabin on Mimi’s private nature preserve, after reviewing basic safety info at the meeting location. At the cabin, we secured our belongings and dressed in our safety gear. We didn’t have to bring anything along. Our guides brought water for us in their bag. We didn’t have to bring our phones as Kelly, our guide, had a camera and knew the perfect places for pictures. Next we hiked down to the river. Then bodyrafted down the river, and finished with a hike back to the cabin. A hearty lunch was waiting for us, which was perfect as we were starving. I could not imagine our trip to Puerto Rico without this tour- it is an absolute must! Better than my expectations which were already very high!

The forest that we hiked through and the Tanama River that we rafted on were beautiful. The guides were great, but needed to do a better job of wiping water off their camera lens before taking photos and setting the date and time on their cameras before the trip (one was a day off and one was 356 days off, and the times were several hours off). Body rafting was fun, but the water was COLD! Personally, I think they shouldn't offer this activity when the water is under 75 degrees F. Also, be forewarned that there are many low spots where one can easily get stuck or hit your bottom on the rocks. It's been 4 days and I still have a sore bottom. To include "caving" in the title is misleading. This was strictly a body rafting trip that happened to go through a cool river cave. The lunch at the end was delicious, but they messed up and didn't provide a veggie sandwich for my vegetarian daughter. We had to stop and get a lunch for her in Arecibo. I think they should have refunded a portion of our activity fee for that missing lunch. I would recommend this activity in warmer weather and when the river is running high.

Let me start by saying that we did have some fun on this experience. That said, it was quite a bit different from what we expected. “Caving” suggests doing quite a bit in caves. We did a cave swim in Belize and I had expected something in the same vein as that. We body rafted through one smaller cave and then were positioned under a rock overhang in the river that they referred to as a cave (but it wasn’t really) for a picture. The body rafting was cool but the river wasn’t ideal for it. Besides being extremely cold, the river seemed just a bit too shallow to really be suitable for this type of excursion. The water wasn’t deep enough in many of the places where we did the body rafting to make it without getting breached in shallow water. As is, the excursion involves a good bit of walking through the river to get from body rafting area to body rafting area. If you are planning to do this, I strongly recommend at least a 5mm wetsuit. I wore a neoprene water shirt and spandex pants and was freezing. Unfortunately, the tour group was (in my view) inappropriately large, so everyone ended up freezing standing and waiting for prolonged periods for the huge group to finish the previous section of body rafting. It was interesting to hear about some of the plants as we did the walk back up to the starting point from the river. Still, I would have preferred to body raft somewhere deeper and think wetsuits should be provided for 50 degree water.

This was our second time on this experience. The water was lower this time and we have some bruises and scrapes to show for it. BUT it's such a fun time, something you can't get anywhere else, something you'll always remember.

Mimi and the tour guides were great, but unfortunately and through no fault of the guides, the water was just a bit shallow. My girlfriend and I got hurt by a lot of rocks & my tailbone felt every rock. Overall the tour guides and Mimi are great, just be sure to look or ask about water levels before your tour.

Excellent adventure with an amazing tour guide, Kelly. Her helpful info made our trip! Mimi, our contact, was so gracious to schedule our trip on a day that the company wasn’t giving tours. She was so sweet and always provided lots of what you need info. The river with its underwater cave and springs were so unique. The landscape changed as we moved down river. It was worth it!
