We meet up by the two stone pillars at Ingólfur Square. The square named after the first settler of Iceland, Ingólfur Arnarsson, so a perfect setting to start our walk through Icelandic history. From there, we walk to check out his Viking Longhouse, talk about the Icelandic Sagas a little, and discover how Reykjavik came to be.
In old town Reykjavik, we will see the oldest house in the city center dating back to 1762, and from the period Reykjavik became a town. We will check out an Elf stone in the city center and give a small glimpse into the mythology of Iceland, Elves & Trolls, and of course, the story of this particular Elf stone.
On we walk towards the Reykjavik harbor, admiring the magnificent Harpa concert hall before we walk past the Eagles hill where Icelanders come together on special occasions to celebrate. A stop by the oldest stone house in Reykjavik is in order, built in 1770, and there we talk about the story of how Iceland became an independent nation. It's a short walk up the main shopping street to look at the magnificent Hallgrímskirkjachurch, and of course, the topic there is the history of religion in Iceland.
A stop by the Reykjavik pond is in order, checking out the birdlife, The Reykjavik city council building, and admiring the scenery.
Our Final stop is by the Parliament building of Iceland, where we discuss politics & the guardian spirits ;).

Hi, my name is Valur and together with my expert local guides, we do the walking tours of Your Friend in Reykjavik. We know how to entertain as well as educate like hundreds of 5-star reviews can confirm. We've got a passion for our country, it's history, food, beer, and mythology and we try to make sure some of the love we have for Iceland rubs off onto our friends from around the world.
You are also in safe hands with us as we are official tour guides and members of the Icelandic Tourist Guide Association which is granted only to those who have passed a comprehensive one-year training program, approved by the Icelandic Ministry of Education.

An áit a mbeidh tú

We want you to feel the unique, friendly atmosphere of our quirky little city, not just to see the most popular tourist attractions. We’ll even have a small lesson on the Icelandic language so you can not only walk with a Viking but talk like one too.

We’ll be showing you our favorite places to eat, drink and visit (we also have an intimate knowledge of happy hour deals that we’re happy to share).

Really fun tour with great stories from a local who really knows Reykjavik and its history. We learned quite a lot from our tour and enjoyed walking around and seeing the locations. We also got a lot of great insight for restaurants and cafe's to visit for the remainder of our stay in the city.

Bardi, gave us a nice tour of Reykjavik. He explained the history, showed us places of interest and mythical stories. We had a rough time because of the weather and he did the best to help us see the charm that Reykjavik holds. I always find these tours helpful to get a quick orientation to a new area.

Insightful tour of the city. Our guide offered many personal stories about smaller local places as well as info about the history of the city and more famous locations.
